Late Autumn country pics

Very small lake, dairy farm in background.  Are those bull rushes (reeds)  good for arrow shafts....?

Those are cattails, not bulrushes, the root is edible.

Really nice picture 101, you really captured that great. That lake is as calm and mirror like as it could possibly get love the blue sky and reflection.

Is that the lake that the highway goes around just before Cobble Hill? I've looked at the bullrushes and the stems are kind of rolled up leaves. I know they are actually cattails but for some reason up here people call them bullrushes. It's quite wide spread.


PS-  Actually maybe it isn't that wide spread. I just asked my grand daughter what she calls them and she said cat tails. Just my generation I guess.

Cobble Hill? Yep.  Look around the Cambellton area between the Mall and the Estuary.  Tons of Cattails.

Beauty pic.. Cattail leaves are good for weaving small baskets, hats and other things your heart leads you..

When I was a kid we used to soak them in paint and light them on fire. Run around the neighbourhood waving them like idiots. Nowadays you'd wind up in a "special school" if you did that. Then it was "just kids"

I think the reason we used paint was my buddies dad owned a paint store so their basement had lots of paint. Latex hadn't been invented yet ;)
