anybody build an asiatic style bow?
« on: November 16, 2016, 10:50:11 am »
Hi Guys,

I really like the look of the Tibetan-style bows, with their shorter sijahs. Anybody built an Asiatic style bow with a wood core (as opposed to Korean bamboo bows)?

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

manchuarchery.org has the build process of one
Also hornbowyers and ATARN on facebook, though it's mostly tatar, turkish and magyar bows. yokhua has made several though. Also someone made a ming style and a mongol style bow. Also Alex Wittenaar made several Mongol style horn bows, at least one with a black locust core.
I think the good thing about bamboo is that it's more accessible and maybe don't have to worry about knots or grain violations like with wood??

I haven't ever seen nor heard of anyone that wasn't an actual Korean horn bowyer build an accurate looking Korean target bow .. closest was the bamboo bow posted recently

yeah, that sounds like any asiatic bows with wooden cores, not just korean bows with wooden cores O_o
By Korean bamboo bows, you don't mean also korean bows with bamboo cores but horn belly?

There are more countries and styles in Asia besides Korea. That's what I was getting at, and James has built a Korean horn bow. I saw it when I was at his house picking up my Chinese horn bow.
