Penna. Jasper

First I would like to thank my friend Steve N. (caveman 2533) for giving me a bunch of Pa Jasper. This is the first pc of this type material that I have worked, It was a lot stronger material than I thought it would be, after a few early hinges I figured out my swing, after that it worked real well and pressure flaked real good, broke the corner off one ear on the very last little clean up ugghhh. I believe this is raw material and not sure if can be heat treated, Thanks for lookin and Thanks Again Steve.  Bob

Very nice.   How well did it sharpen?  What exactly is jasper?

Wv farrier, Oh it's sharp, this material is found in eastern Penna . From the suqehanna river to the eastern border, It is a beautiful butterscotch color for the most part but has some rarer shades also, maybe Steve will see this and explain more about jasper, I am from nw penna and we don,t have any of this type material so I am not real familiar with the particulars,  Bob

Looks like some slick stuff there outback. I find small pieces in my fields that I think are jasper but I'm really not positive. I've never been able to make anything from them yet always to small and odd shaped but I have taken percussion flakes off some. The stuff I'm thinking of looks like candy it's so smooth.

Nice, Bob. I tried some of that the first time I met Zuma at a Knap-In down here in Florida. I'd like to get some more. And, I'm sure you could heat it at a lower Temperature, 350-400?
