This is surely a loss for traditional and wood bow archery and the bow hunting world.

He may be gone, but look at where we are because of the likes of him! We can reach the heights we do because of those that went before us.  Those that took the wisdom handed down to them and built on it again. We really do stand on the shoulders of giants.

Some might say we'll never see the likes of him again.  Well, that may be.  But those following us won't see the likes of us again, either.  So in the memory of Dean, in his honor, and to your own honor...find a student and teach them what you know.

Sorry to hear this, my condolences to his family. I learned a lot from his book and fell in love with his bows the first time I saw them at his booth at the Compton shoot some time ago.
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.

Sad to hear it.  He sure influenced a lot of bowyers.  But I'm glad that he will live on through his books and videos.  I love Hunting the Osage Bow.

What a shocker, Bob.  I enjoyed chatting with Dean on several occasions.  Most memorable at the Eastern Traditional Archery Rendezvous before it was called ETAR.  Dean had a way with words and an interesting perspective on life in general.  To this day, a part of his craft and influence is evident in the bows I make today.  We've lost a good friend in Dean.  He'll be missed.

Rest In Peace, Dean....

Sad to hear of Dean's passing. Prayers for his family.

He was at MoJAM at least once, maybe more, don't recall right now. He had quite a following there and wherever he went. He was a master craftsman that taught many of us how to finesse a bow. His writings are referred to wherever we gather. Hunting the osage bow is on my shelf in a place of honor.

R.I.P , wow that just took me off guard. My copy of hunting the osage bow looks like its a hundred years old. I go back to that book over and over again even just to read for the hell of it. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family.
