Rawhide Backed Hickory...$$$ shot added
« on: October 07, 2016, 09:29:46 pm »
I actually completed this bow awhile ago but have yet to post all the pictures as it was a gift for my aunts husband.  I should have the FD pic tomorrow.  It's 40#@28"...I think ithe may have gained a little weight as well.  The bow is 64" ttt....1.5" to midlimb tapering to 3/8" tips.  The bow is backed in goat rawhide and painted with paint markers.  The grip is tanned alligator skin with a floppy rest.  I put a heavy heat treatment on this bow and had to do a lot of steaming to get the handle aligned.  My uncles spirit animal is the bear and I tried my best to put a bear on one of the limbs...buuuuuut I think it looks more like a pig .

Uncle Bob is a natural with this bow.  He was plugging that hay bale like nobody's business.  I don't think anybody would have appreciated this bow anymore.

It shoots good enough for what my uncle is doing with it.  I think it would easily kill a deer 15 yds and in.  Do any of you find that bows with snakey limbs don't perform as well as a straight limbed bow?

I have since made my hickory bows wider to start (1.75 -2").  I have a pyramid bow started right now at 2" tapering straight to the tips.  I'm gonna try my hand at recurring the tips as well.

That's some fantastic artwork.
