A couple more Mexican Obsidian
« on: September 13, 2016, 06:36:18 pm »
I got into that green obsidian
and couldn't stop >:D
It's been heat treated.
I need to treat some more.

That is some pretty stuff Zuma. Is green obsidian real obsidian? I didn't think you could heat treat obsidian. I thought the volcano did that.

Bj, sometimes the glass is too brittle and tempering it actually makes it more workable.

Nice work Don

Thanks Stringman, I never knew you could temper obsidian. Sometimes it flakes nice but seems to crush when I try to finish up with pressure, just seems a little weak. Would that be a case for heat? Sorry to high jack your post Zuma.

First I've read some obsidian is improved with heat treating. Lots of my mahogany type stuff is very brittle and tough to get a point from, I'll try to cook some
