I finished this bow a couple months ago, but I knew that I'd be camping at one of my favourite places on planet Earth, Pachena Bay on the west coast of Vancouver island, so I held off on taking photos till this past weekend. Its made from a dead standing young yew tree, cut not far from where these photos were taken.
I removed all the rotten sapwood and affected heartwood, and got a nice straight board from the centre of a 4" diameter tree. The wood was very dense and fairly dry off the stump, it didn't warp or twist at all as it dried.
I boiled in the recurves, and steamed the 3 bends in the handle. It was worked until I could brace it, then 3 layers of sinew were laid on over the course of a month or so. I let it season about 5 months before I started bending it.
52" NTN, pulls 56# at 25", tillered to 26". Dyed deer hide grip, rawhide tips, and 2 of the nicest matched copperheads I've ever seen from Cip (thanks amigo). A few coats of shellac and a few coats of tung oil.
Was getting in the high 170s and a couple low 180s through my chrony with some 500 grain arrows. This will be my go-to bow for the next while, cheers guys thanks for looking
