Large strip of osage bark

Soooo this happened. What should I do with it?

Burn it.  It might have borer eggs in it.  That happens to staves I cut in the summer.

Go for it.  You might be able to make something cool from it.  I just burn them when they pop loose like that.

I took and made some really nice picture frames out of the bark for my daughter.

Osage syrup anyone? Lol. Realistically,  will it make a viable stain that darkens with age?

I guess you could seal it in a plastic bag
with a bug bomb and take care of the bugs.

Heart wood and the orange papery cover on roots make a nice yellow dye. Never tried bark. Boil material
and throw in some 0000 steel wool that has been washed real good and you get a green.

Find a clear garbage bag and put it in the sun for a while, that'll cook any bugs.

I had a few strips like that waiting to be burned in the firepit.. It rained yesterday and I noticed the inner bark was loose. Stripped a bunch of it off for handle wraps or maybe even bow backing?

Are the fibers in the inner bark strong?

I think as a backing, it might add a little strength but more as a decoration. It has some nice color streaks in it...

Be sure it can take the bending under tension. It could damage a bow if it breaks while drawn.
 You could use the inner bark as weavers in a basket quiver.
