Clint (Osage Outlaw) let me pick out an Osage stave from the Monster tree when I was over at the Classic in 2014
. Thanks Clint.
I've been wondering how to handle it an what to make for ages, 'cos I wanted to do it justice. (Don't want to rush these things
)
Do I make it with the rings running back to belly to use the natural curve or do I take it down to a good solid ring?
I decided go down to the ring and try for a flight bow (24" draw). It looks like I'll need some heat work to straighten out the bend, although I'll loose some length off that far end. But let's get her down to one clean ring first.
I've recently made a Hickory flight bow that shot 299 yards
, you'd think it could make one more wouldn't you? I drew it further and it chrysalled. Hopefully Osage, (being' King an' all
) should get me out past 300 yards.
I'm thinking about 70# at 24"
As work progresses I'll post it on the flight bow forum.
Any design suggestions(suitable for an Osage newbie like me
) are welcomed
Del
PS. The stave is about 1 1/8 x 1 3/4"
