To mess with or not? That is the question.....
« on: July 18, 2016, 02:07:20 am »
So I built my first(and only) bow a few years ago it's a red oak board bow pyramid style. It works but I'm not pleased with my craftsmanship at all. I was impatient when I made it and just wanted to shoot it. It shoots very well. I'd like to make the takers shorter I'm not a fan of the pyramid style I built. Wife says leave it alone and do better next time. The perfectionist in me won't let me leave it alone. What do you gents think?

Obviously you could re-worki it but i'd leave well alone and start again. Make your fades 2 inches long and blend everything together with curves.

I would leave it alone and start a new one.  After you have been making them a few years compare a recent bow to that first one.  It will let you see how far you have come.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

You might tinker with it and end up worse off.  Ask me how I know.

After you get a few bows under your belt you will want to hide the evidence of your early builds. I would simply start another one. I will on occasion rework a bow but only if I have a very specific reason for doing so.

I am often the contrarian. I say taper the sides of the "fades" from the beginning right to the handle. Round the new edges heavily on the belly side and slightly on the back.

You're not reworking the bow. You are finishing what you started.
