Horn Prep. Question
« on: July 15, 2016, 03:37:00 pm »
Hi Fellas  got a hold of a Gemsbok horn about 31 in. long and fairly strait , been following the Beadmans horn prep build along going to be following that system other then possibly using my drum sander for precision thickness, but I'm gathering all my materials to do it and was wondering  if you guys use wood or metal band saw blades for cutting horn ? or any other advice is welcome. I plan on making a native type composite bow.

Your wanting to make a Horn/sinew bow no wood core?
I'm sure either saw blade would work, horn works very easy with most tools.
It burn a bit and stink. I usually opt to use a hacksaw.
A belt/drum sander will work well for thickness, but go slow and easy

Thanks for the info I'm looking to make a  composite wood core  sinew ,horn but in native style like in Jimm Hamms book , I have lots of hickory & osage but locating some sugar maple to make the core , I agree with going slow with the drum sander , have made wood veneer that way before ,but right now I'm just concentrating on prepping the horn & educating my self on this type of bow
