Elm self bow: 62” tip-to-tip, 50#@25”
« on: July 14, 2016, 04:58:23 pm »
I traded Pearl Drums hand tied trout flies for this Elm stave. After working on the stave for two weeks in the 90 to 100-degree heat here in Colorado, I finished it. The bow shoots great, and I am happy with it.

Thanks for looking.

Specs and such:

Elm self bow: 62” tip-to-tip, 50#@25” (I tempered the stave and—lightly—flipped the tips.)
Medium brown leather dye
Almost a whole can of Helmsman Spar Urethane
Rat Snake skin/sinew (artificial) accents (scraps, really)
Deer hide lace handle wrap (same here, scraps)
Leather floppy rest
Sinew (artificial) bow string
Mink fur silencer

Sweet bow Scott. The tiller is spot on and I love the finish work.

Looks like it was worth every drop of sweat and a fantastic use of scrap materials. Nice bend should be a shooter for sure.

Geez, thanks, ya'll. I'm really still a greenhorn (I don't even have a dozen bows under my belt yet), but I'm doing my homework, mainly here on the PA Web site, and working hard at it. Plus, for me, Pearl Drums has been a BIG help too.

Great question. I have been using these. I use them for fly tying, too, of course!
