Elven Owl Bow
« on: May 31, 2016, 12:25:39 am »
Haven't posted for a while . I was trying to keep this one quiet so a gentleman could surprise his wife with it as a gift .
63"Privet bow ,43#@26" . Amethyst set in Buffalo horn over dyed maple Burl for the nocks . Carved and painted Barn owl feather motif handle with mother of pearl owl face strike plate . Leather " leaf " shelf . Abalone tulip inlays in the fades .
Lord of the rings "elvish " calligraphy on the limbs .
She seemed happy with the results . Ill post full draw pics when I get them from the current owner .

gorgeous!  I am a huge Tolkien fan, so I like the elvish.  The carving is absolutely stunning.

There's a little line where a bow changes from a tool into a work of art. You Sir, crossed that line by miles. Outstanding!!!  That could have easily been a prop in the movies.

I have nothing but scorn for all weird ideas other than my own.

The calligraphy is beautiful.  Could I ask what kind of pen did you use, and, did you seal the wood before you wrote on it?
