Nothing fancy
« on: May 22, 2016, 07:48:40 pm »
I have wanted to make a sheath for a knife a buddy
gave me for quite a while. I had some stuff laying around,
so I cut and punched some holes in a hunk of leather.
Some hemp stitching and I'm happy.

If a welt is for recessing the stitches,
No, I don't really have any leather tools.
I used an old awl and a single edge razor blade.
Should have used some flint flakes. O:)

Pat I guess that's the point.  ;) It does exactly what
I want it to do. Maybe something nice in the future.
I sure do like the nice things other members make.

Zuma, the welt protects the stitching from the blade. It is a narrow piece of leather that is stitched in between the front and back, along the stitch line.

Thanks Pat :)
I thought about it but decided that if I needed to
I would soak and form the leather so cutting the
stitching wouldn't be an issue. I am conscience
of the possibility but things seem fine as is.
Thanks Mounter :)

Pat I did install this (red) folded piece of leather that
acts as a stop and guide. I doubt it will wear out before I do >:D

Thanks Pat for explaining that about a welt.
Zuma....Not to be picky at all but a welt/a good one is really there for your protection.Extra thickness. It may not wear out true but now if  by happen stance a person falls onto the ground on their side the extra leather is their so you don't stab yourself by accident.Your paticular knife there has quite curved cutting edge.Just an observation that's all. It's a really nice set up you got there.
