Weight change on a kids bow
« on: May 17, 2016, 05:25:33 pm »
I cut down an OS bow for a kid at the range. He was shooting it last night. He's about 12 and has to really grunt to get it drawn but he can hold it at his full draw. I re tillered it a bit and the weight dropped from 31 to 28 pounds@ 26". I don't think he is drawing it 26 but who knows, I was looking at the bend and nothing else. What I'm wondering is if 3 pounds is going to be a noticeable difference to him? It is a 10% drop. What do you think?

I am 62 and busted my bow arm shoulder about 10 years ago. I struggle to shoot 55#, so dropped to 50#. Also Osage self bows. I can comfortably shoot 1/2 a 3D course at 50# and then can really feel the fatigue setting in.
So I think 3# could make a difference if you are at a borderline weight anyway.JMHO

Your over thinking it.....A 12 year old isn't going to know the difference after about 10 shots.  he'll grow out of it in two months either way........

If it's a bit heavy for him he will very quickly get used to it. As long as there is no 'tremble' at full draw it should be fine.
