I think microwaves can be used safe like this at least I haven't found anything that says different.
I have seen wood heated in one and it did bend like rubber.

I used to dry chunks of wood in a microwave for duck carving. Set for the right time it worked great, set the microwave with a little too much time and the wood would be charred black in the center.

I went to the thrift shop today, bought a microwave, and cut out a window with a drill.  I zapped some wood but, I grew a third testicle that started talking smack about my mom.  So...:

Your going to DIE!!! Stop this will give you cancer!!!! Eddie let that wood set for a few days is my advice. If the wood was hot to the touch, the internal wood will be super dry, and Cascara can't be too dry or it will snap.

Brian, I watered my garden all morning with the wood getting soaked while I did it. Then wrapped it in wet rags and cooked it. I'll let it sit till next weekend when I get a chance to work on it again. Too many irons in the fire right now.

As much fun as this looks, I am pretty happy with my garment steamer and bag. Despite 60min of steaming.

This is very minor on the scale of internet microwave crimes. That said it isn't exactly the safest idea (fire hazard, plasma balls, arcing etc.)  Cancer? Maybe. I once heard a japanese student was patenting a steel forge/furnace that used 6 old magnetotrons from microwaves.

You could use a fine mesh of metal approx 1 foot away from hole to act as faraday cage, to catch any stray waves.

On the plus side, internet might be spotty whenever you use it. Makes a good jammer.
