Awesome Job. I only have one question, why didn't you steam in or heat in the tips and bend them so that the double overlays " belly and back " wouldn't be needed ?

I wrapped a wet rag and aluminum foil around the area I planned to bend and heated with a heat gun. I guess I didn't let it heat/steam long enough. Lol

I wondered how heartwood hickory would respond to the heat. Maybe someday I will get around to using all the heartwood belly splits I have laying around. Thanks for the inspiration.

 Using a Heat gun for any tight bend in hickory has always resulted in a cracked belly for me. 1 hr in the steam is all I do now.

Nice job with the character/tiller/and tip work on that hickory.Hickory is one of my favorite woods for a bow.With the heat treatment done to it you can expect it to serve you well.I've always assumed that hickory heartwood would be a tad more brittle than the sapwood.It must have some type of nonrotting qualities to it.I make bows from it and burn it in my stove.A log from a dead fall on the ground will have the sapwood punky but the heartwood will be fairly hard yet.
