42" sinewed osage / 47# @ 25"
« on: April 28, 2016, 07:43:52 pm »
Hey fellas,
Since I hate to waste anything thought I would make a bow from some scrap pieces from the "friends" posted bows.
This is a split off a short piece of osage from Jon W. has a knot in the last 6" of the lower limb but thius Osage was way too nice to waste it. The whitetail back sinew is the thin pieces left from those original 3 bows. The blacksnake skin is 2 pieces left from doing the 2 Pentecost bows also material from Jon.
Got her tillered out, then sinewed it, then applied the snake skins. The string is special to me because it was made by Gutshot's daughter  Ms. Lauren. She calls it pink lemonade....thanks you young lady. I did a silly thing during the sinew job and went edge to edge across the lower limb knot so I'm stuck with a less than even brace profile.....but the full draw and lack of any set speaks to the overall tiller. The bow weighs 47# @ 25" which is my draw length.....this little girl is going to be my covered blind bow....

enjoy the pics fellas, comments welcome....2 sets of pics

Damn Rich,  those short little bows of yours are amazing the heck out of me.
I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.

Thank you for the nice comments, much appreciated. To be honest I'm surprised that it doesn't really stack and it is very well balanced in the hand...

I should send you another piece so you can do a set back handle. Osage+sinew= 8) 8) 8). Sweet bow my friend. I can't believe you got any bows out of that crappy wood.

Rich,
You bent that one... 42" pulling 25"?  :o :o :o Your draw is pulling way more than half the bows total length...That's amazing...That bend is balanced and I love the slightly positive tiller, I can see it well in the braced picture...You've pushed way beyond the envelope once again...Give us a mass weight on that "stick"...Unstrung say's it all ;)
                                                                                                                                         Don

Rich you need to get your self a paint horse ride it backwards and shoot you some squirrels threw the woods of Michigan with that little sucker. I like that bend. And Lauren loved that you are using her string!

Hey Rich, I looked at the pics first and thought now what is this - a wonky stick ...
But found the f/d balanced out very nice. After reading the text, I admire your skill. You did a very good job saving all the materials from the junk box. Oh, and I'm with you, I don't through a piece of osage in the fire wood box. It's just too good.
Do you have a detail pic of the string/nock, how do you prevent slipping of?
Great bow with low cost! Oh, and the young Lady's work gives a nice extra!

Hey fellas,
Took some close up shots of the knocks, skin and sinew job, and one of the edge of the bow. The majority of the bow is only 2 rings thick, the exception being the very tips and the center 4-5 inches.

Jon W, ya the wood you give me is really crappy....ya right. 47# at way over half length and 2 rings thick.....I'll take that wood any day sir 8)

Paul, thank you sir

Don, will get that weight as soon as I re-wire my battery connections on the electronic scale sir.

Gutshot, glad you like it sir, and really like Laurens string.

Simon, attached close up pics sir

Stickbender, john, redhand.....thank you for the compliments, much appreciated....and I like me a good shorty for the close-up dirty work in the thick stuff. Of course that bad Jon W has to enable my addiction to "make 'em short, strong and rip 'em on back....he's a bad influence he is >:D >:D
enjoy the pics fellas
