Black locust flattie with snake leather handle (No. 76)
« on: April 22, 2016, 12:47:06 am »
this bow comes from nice clean stave, which was gentle heat treated and heat corrected. The lower limb has much more reflex than the upper, it was natural grown. This causes a lot of positve tiller.
The flips are also made with heat.
Backing is red and black dyed rawhide; handle overlay is bloodwood; arrow pass is artificial stone (earth pigments with epoxi).
Handle is covered with two portions of snake leather (snake was too thin) – you can see the cut on both sides, belly scales are on the belly and on the back of the bow. I got the leather in this unusual manner, the skin was cut at the back!

Specs:

62” ntn
52#/ 27”
40mm max width
455 grams mass

Nice colors, and cool use of the snake skin for the grip. Well done Simon.

Cool looking bow. Like the dye on the raw hide. Is that dyed before you put it on the bow?

Another artistically delightful bow Simon.  Sweet!  Was the rawhide backing required or just decorative?  Really like the whole handle area.

No, dyed with rawhide glued on

No, the rawhide wasn't required. The back is a fine chased ring, call it safety or decoration ...

Thanks everbody!

Beautiful piece of work again simson. In all respects. It's always art candy looking at your bows.
Personally I don't see any difference in accuracy shooting between even to 3/16" posy tiller myself.I've heard some people say different.

Ed, I think it has to do with equal amount of work in both limbs and return time after arrow release. I do a pos tiller on asym bows and zero on equal limb length (all by a given straight limb or even reflex or deflex). The balance at f/d is the key.
