Osage ring chasing

 I am chasing a ring on an osage stave.  I am going to leave sap wood on. I have one ring on it end to end.
Now how important is it to remove every little piece of the top ring ?

it is important to have one continuous ring. I've only left extra wood on top of knots, when I thought they needed it.
I left a ring of sapwood on my last BL bow but I only do that on osage had BL when there is not enough heartwood.

Like George said, remove all of the ring above the back ring. It should come off easily with a scraper.

 I guess this may be a dumb question. In one section at center near the end the wood is a bit lighter color.
Is this another ring or can this happen ?

 I think I answered my own question. I took my stave out side in the sun and observed it there.
As I went side to side along the end grain I saw a defining difference in colors. So I feel sure I have
one ring. It feels that way too. If you can go by feel. I can always back it with rawhide .

   Rawhide won't save your bow, it just helps a little. Take your time and run the ring perfectly, not a matter of being a perfectionist running a ring needs to be perfect. Its not that hard and you probably need the practice anyway.

 I can use the practice . I have made mostly whitewood bows.
