Chores can pay off

My wife finally talked me into cutting some limbs off the bottom of our Purple beech. I've been pruning them back for a few years. I was just about ready to burn it and saw this. I've been looking for a piece of wood like this since I started bowyery. Now I can build a three piece take down with a natural handle. I've got a bunch of OS cutoffs for limbs. Now I just have to wait for it to dry. Any advice on drying a piece of Purple beech like this?

If it's anything like lilac and other decorative shrubs, you'll need to wrap it in plastic with just a couple small holes poked in it. Lilac needs to dry about as slow as you can force it to. If you've been searching for that piece for awhile, I say better safe than sorry. Bag it up.
