Charity (Invitational Bow trade)
« on: March 07, 2016, 01:10:38 pm »
My offering for the 1st annual Primitive Archer Invitational Bow Trade 2016

This beautiful "peaches and cream" Osage orange stave became the perfect canvas to fashion a hunting weight bow in a reflex/deflex design. Once tiller was complete, the bow was sanded to a smooth finish before copperhead skins were added to the back. A short section of timber rattler accentuates the back of the grip section and a satin wood lam completes the front of the handle. Big horn sheep overlays were added to the tips for durability as well as looks and a 10 strand fast flight string complete the package. This bow was named in honor of the love my Grampa demonstrated to me all my life.

Stats: 66" OAL, 53#@28"

And the money shot.

Thanks for looking and God Bless!

The recurve does look like it starts to work there too at full draw.A working recurve. One of the touchiest things to tiller.Good job.

Thanks guys, it was a fun and stress filled project! I'm just in love with this streaky Osage and glad I've got another 30 staves to play with from this tree!

Beadman, I should mention there is a thin purple heart lam in the handle between Osage and satinwood. You are right about the working recurves being a little tricky.

Killer looking bow Scott and would be a perfect weapon to hit the deer woods with in hand. That one will make someone happy when it shows up at their door.
