Anyone know about bearded dragons?
« on: February 17, 2016, 05:16:11 pm »
My 5 year old is dying for one after being around the one at school and the gym day care. Big mouth dad in so many words said I'd get her one and she won't let it down! I trust you guys more than most and was wondering if any of you have experience with em and first time advice on everything from picking one out to habit. Definitely want a smaller breed that could live in a mid size tank like maybe 20 gal. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks

Paul you probably want a young adult their diet is 50 percent veggies, the rest bugs like crickets and stuff, you can build a enclosure from melamine and Plexiglas, depending on size it should be up to 120 gallon size. You might want to buy from a breeder if you can as they specialise in it and may have healthier animals

Thanks for the link. I was not aware of the potential habitat size needed

A Friend of mine has one, and all of the above.  Don't forget a heat rock.  They make neat pets.

Weird!  I just finished reading this article: http://www.kcrg.com/content/news/Dubuque-County-Deputies-Save-Frozen-Bearded-Dragon-369178371.html

I've seen bearded dragons up close, they're pretty neat, fairly slow pets.

Real funny bud. I'm certainly not looking to break her heart but I'm also not looking to take on something that's going to be more hassle than it's worth

Bearded dragons are cool lizards.. Ms Kerrie's son had a couple... Very freindly... He used to raise meal worms to feed it was rather easy.. save a few bucks don't have to rely on others

Depending on where you live, you can just leave the porch light, on, or get a small frame, and put a white sheet on it, and put a light behind it, or just above it, and you will get all the free bugs you want  for the Lizard.  Especially in the summer.  I used to do that for my baby mocking bird.  My Buddy's bearded dragon, is called Spike. ;) :D

Be a good father and convert you bow shop into a lizard sanctuary!

I wasn't familiar with these lizards... I was afraid you had met my ex mother in law!
