Reusing painted sinew backing?

Hi all I've got a sinew backed bow that failed and I was wondering if I could strip the sinew backing and reuse it. Only downside is the sinew has been painted (i dont know what kind of paint). Do you think its salvageable?
Cheers Si

Scrape and sand the paint off and then soak it free. Hopefully the back is fairly smooth and the paint isn't sitting in deep fissures in the back.
