Yesterday I cut my splices.



Then I worked on the fit. Its not perfect but it will do.



Then I glued it up.



While waiting on glue to dry I roughed out the osage stave.


While rasping around a whoopty doo a knot remnant decided to tear out.



I flooded it with super glue and clamped it back in place. I don't have high hopes that it will survive but we will see.

Otter, never have used dry heat so I sure cant give advice on that "wrap around" scorch mark, but dont really see tham lateral checks as a problem. Hell man, you in the shop with that Turtle guy, I heard from a concordia spy that Turtle makes screamin fast bows

Otter, no problem on the cracks or the scorch marks. You didn't burn it bad enough to do any damage. As they age it adds character IMO. You can lightly sand a little bit of it out but in time the entire stave is going to darken and blend. I've had both problems in the past and the bows shoot fine. In fact here's one of my favorites.

And your splices are much cleaner than mine. I always have to steam and clamp mine overnight to get them to match up that good.

Its just worring me .... The first bow I ever tempted back in 2011 was Osage and I did the same thing then on one limb... I foor tillered it and  put the string on it and started tillering to get both limbs bending properly, I was flexing bow back and forth to about 24 inched orso and whammy it snaped right at the scorched spot ... It was in the middle like this one... So you dont think I need to raw hide back it? Up for all thoughts and knowledge!

Turtle - looks like that splice fit like a glove.  Nicely done!  Have not used that epoxy before - is it a type you have used before and do get it locally?  The osage stave looks nice to - too bad for the tear out.  You guys are rockin.

Otter - IMO you just never know about scorching the back.  I have seen scorched backed bows that have shot 1000's of arrows, but I have also seen them pop a splinter right at the scorch.  I think the raw hide is a good idea.

I'm pretty darn jealous right now all you guys working on bows and I stuck at work for 2 more weeks without a day off. But keep it up cause it gets me through the day a lot better.

Fred I'm glad this build is going good. Your doing an awesome job with it.

I got the ERC molle to a good 4" bear last night. Now I've got it reverse braces an extra 1.5" ready go the sinew to go down. I didn't want to go any further than a good brace due to being ERC, I cut brough multiple grain layers. And I'm pretty sure I have what's left of a pitch pocket left on the back along most of the limb. So this one has me a little skittish to pull it without a backing. I'm still trying to figure out what to due about where I have that tensioner block (old string spool). I think I'll leave it and in a couple weeks once the original sinew is dry enough I'll plug in a patch of sinew to fill it in later. I could just build a wood jig that'll hold the limbs up while I pull the handle down but I'm already set up in a simpler fashion. Once she's all glued up I'll set it to the side and start on my other trade bow, the. Get plan B started.

That wasn't the first take down attempted but it was the first one that succeeded 
Here is the first attempt which 12 years after starting I finally finished last year.
