Dylan,  are you drawing that bow with the string between your middle fingers?

i believe that is a shadow from the string falling in between his index and middle finger.

even so, still curious as to what's happening between the thumb and index.

Ha good catch ;D I'm using a Manchu style thumb ring I carved from some Osage.
Infact I used it to get my trade bow shot in, I had a deep cut on my finger tip that split open( and hurt like hell) the first time I shot split finger. So I dug this out of my desk drawer.

Threw some epoxy in the crack after sanding off the tip overlay.  I made sure it got in deep.  Then clamped it and hoping for the best...

^^ neat thumb ring. i've never seen that style before.

I would say hes drawing it with his thumb fellas!  8)

i knew it was with his thumb, it just threw me off seeing the tip of his thumb sticking past his index finger.

Thats pretty cool.  I've seen a few different release devices for traditional shooting.  The backyard bower on YouTube makes a couple.

I think your tip will be fine ty. Just get a piece of horn on it for overlays.  And make sure your string groove is moved back a touch.

Thought I would post some pics that show some of the details of the bow I got from Sidmand.  The top limb has some nice curve in it.  I have started going with small tips on the last few bows I made, so I really like these minimalist tips on this one.  The handle wrap is really comfortable...  Sidmand, how did you pad the handle... is it cork underneath the wrap?  It is a great shooter and I am happy to have it!  My bow building started with longer bows, and I have been going shorter and shorter.  This one is the shortest I have so far, and I am really starting to like these shorter bows...   Thanks Sidmand!

Ty, glad to see you are working on a repair, that one is going to be nice!

Yeah, I do have some cow horn. I think I'll redo both tips with a layer of cow horn and then placing some wood on top of the horn (and I won't file through the horn).

I'll definitely move the nocks as well. Maybe make it a 67" ttt.

Super glad you like it.  It's cork, with pigskin suede over it, and leather suede lace over that.  That top limb gave me fits the whole time, and the bottom tried to test me to, but I whooped it into shape.

Ok I need y'alls opinion. I've been working on plan D   Hickory 69" long 1 3/8" @ fades. Pyramid style
I've got it braced and its pulling 40#@23". It's got about 1 3/4" string follow and I haven't tempered the belly yet. I should say that hickory is my nemesis so should I scrap it or would tempering help any?

Is that a board or a stave Tim?  That's a little narrow for hickory at the fades...I would go with at least 1.75" to 2".

It's a board.  It is narrower than I had thought. I'm thinking of putting some cherry bark on the back.

That's not only narrow at the fades, it's narrow all the way if you did a pyramid.  My opinion, if doing a pyramid using hickory, I would have been closer to 2 inches at the fades.  1 3/8 is bodark country and even then I wouldn't do a pyramid at that width.  Undoubtedly where your set is coming from.

I'm digging your bend tho Tim..right limb might have a whisker of a flat spot in the first third of the limb.
