Excellent job Gut. That is a fine looking bow and has character.

Man Fred and Gut.  them some nice lookin' bows. I'd be proud to have either one of them.  I've been in Oklahoma city yesterday and today took the kids to the zoo but I'll be getting home in about an hour and as soon as I get there I'm getting out in the shop to work on plan B.

Paul - that is very nice looking bow - would love to put some arrows through it -- maybe it will happen

ajooter - bow is looking good to me - how far are you pulling it back in the pic?

Mud - curious to see your plan on your take down.  Are you using laminated limbs?

Your getting close then!  I am liking it.  Outer 1/3 look like they could bend just a bit more to me.  As you said, creeping up on to full draw is a good idea.

This stave started with 0 reflex so I may heat treat a little bit into both limbs to give her a little more pep.

I have never worked ERC but I'm sure length of stave and draw weight has a huge bearing on starting thickness.

TR - are you asking because you are roughing out the stave bow dimensions?  Being a bendy handle, I wouldn't worry about it too much, just keep it thicker than the limbs with a gradual taper to the limbs.   But what do I know - I not a bendy handle expert!!  Rich will probably chime in with good advice.

Wow Gutshot, that is a beauty!

I have started on the dogwood.  I am in the process of roughing it down with a hatchet.  What looked to be pipe straight and knot free is revealing some hidden gems.

It has a slight curve, a handful of knots appeared in one limb, and I noticed a deep check on the other limb.  I hope the knots disappear as I remove more wood, and I may be able to miss the check with layout.

This dogwood is sure some tough, hard wood.  I stopped chopping as I was getting a blister.  Will get back on it tomorrow.

Here are some pics of the stave roughing and the polish you can get on a blade with some japanese waterstones... and hours of sharpening :)

Loope, that's a a nice looking blade and I'm partial to some particular draw knives.  ;) You want to do some barter?
