DC, I need the tip to move about an inch to get everything to line up.  The brown area is where I put the Crisco so the wood wouldn't scorch.  I heated about a 6" section......top, bottom & sides.  It was way to hot to hold your finger on.  The way it's tied moved the limb past where it needs to be so I'm hoping this will work.  If not, I'll try something else.

If all else fails i have cut an angled slot then steam it or use dry heat and drive a wedge in gently, then after it sets pop the wedge out, coat in epoxy and re install, do this where the cut will be covered by the grip wrap

That's a solution I've never done.  Thanks for the idea Buddy.  If all else fails, I'll do that.

Not enough that I can tell.  So far, it has returned to it original shape.  OH, maybe it's rubber wood instead of shagbark hickory :-)

Little bit of a problem...I was going to try and just narrow the limb width down right at the knot or employ a torges patch.   What do you guys think?  I think I have enough limb width since I left it a little wider in this partocular location.

      Is that Ironwood?  If so and you narrow the width to get even with that knot there should be no more trouble. I've made bows to the mid 50 # having regular knots sawed right through the middle of the knot. When you get right down near final width check the pin and make sure the fracture is not toward the middle as well (right now it looks to be only on the outside edge).

     Here's a thought, sir. Make a scalloped bow....put them on that side and make sure that when you lay out the scallops have that knot be the bottom of one of them. That should get rid of it.

Am getting my plan a real close. Its right at victims max weight at middle of draw length. Am aiming for max weight at max length so going real slow at this point. Lots of exercising and shooting in between minor scraping. Worked on plan b a little and decided that getting it to my victims specs might be asking too much out of this stave so decided to save it for a bow I have in mind for my brother in law. Roughed out my plan c dogwood billets, but need to let them rest inside to dry for a little while before I go any farther with them. Will let them set inside for a few days and then put them in my hot box. Sometimes dogwood doesnt like to give up that last little bit of moisture. Will try to get a draw pic of plan a tomorrow.

Did some heat treatin tonite. Never done any temperin before so its just a lite toastin. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Looking good stix but try to keep a even color on that heat treating

Simson has done a lot of ammonia fuming to make some beautiful color, but I have also read it can also be used for putting some severe bends into wood, much more than could be accomplished with steam.  Has anyone tried ammonia for stubborn bends?  But I do like the idea to cut a slot and use a wedge, not quite as toxic
