Does the snakeskin contribute anything besides looking good?

I believe just camouflage, and looks. If I'm not mistaken Bowa's have thick enough skins to provide a small amount of protection.

It provides a moisture barrier to the back, especially important on sinew backed bows.

Basically snake skins are aesthetic but they do add moisture protection got sinew backed bows and like BJ said, thicker skinned snakes like boas add protection and maybe some performance.

Where do you guys get snakeskins? It has been a while I have seen snake around here and biggest ones like four lined snake are rare, even though it would probably look good on a bow. Also sand viper, most poisonous European snake would look awesome:

Some states have hunting season for rattlers so you can buy their skins easily. Illegal to kill snakes in my state except for protection so I've just been watching for roadkill.

I get mine from road kills or friends that know I use them. It's illegal in Kentucky to sell them unless you have a taxidermy license.
