So, I've been thinking about this a lot. In my opinion there are two different trains of thought when we as bowyers begin to build a bow for a fellow bowyer. I think we lean towards the idea of building a bow that we think fits our victims "personal style", or to build something for them in a style that they would build for themselves.
But, I think back to what Sadie Jane said to me several months back when I told her I would do a trade with her. I kept asking her what kind of bow she wanted and what style would fit her. She told me that she didn't want a Sadie bow, that she wanted an Aaron bow. She wanted me to build her something that I would build for myself. And the more I think about it, the more I agree that this is how I would want someone to build a bow for me, in their own personal style, not mine.
But, as the builder, I have a hard time with this.
What are others thoughts here? Do we build a bow that we think fits them, or us?
Maybe, I'm over thinking this.
