Rhyo Beast Point
« on: January 05, 2016, 06:33:54 pm »
First point from the spalls we collected. Sorry the picture is blurred. I had a real good Dalton base started and ran into a wall. Had to widen the base to thin the wall out. This stuff is hard. The small blister in the one picture is from chopping wood, not from knapping Rhyolite..LOL

Great point.  That looks like some seriously unfriendly rock.  Did you do any horizontal punching on it (or whatever we are calling it)?

Thanks Keith, I shaped with a hard stone and then went to the composite antler tipped stick and indirect percussion. I was sitting on the floor like the picture I posted. Finished with a smaller Ishi stick by pressure flaking. It is hard rock but I know you ain't scared of hard rock...LOL

Good going on that tough stuff and keep us posted, looks like you got it pretty thin.

I did not really like the point so I reworked it. Did a small flute and made it a NC point...Now I like it.... ::)
