Duct tape backing...pics of Bow added
« on: December 21, 2015, 07:46:53 pm »
I'm going to back a very light weight 15-20# selfbow with some duct tape.  Well I should say I want to attempt to back it.  I was going to just use some spray tack adhesive and then lay the duct tape over it.  It's for my gf little boy who lives and dies by the golden macaroni...just thought it would be fun for him.

I also have some birch bark I may use as an accent piece on the tips and maybe the handle.  I need to look into Google and see just how to apply that as well.

Considering the kid and the pattern, I would say it is a brilliant idea!
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

Ive done the pvc thing. Heat slowly and dont force the squish or the pipe kind of separates on the edges. Youll figure it out fast. Cheap easy way for some fun

I'm giving his bow a straightening thru the handle.  I will post picks when it's straightened out.  I'm not sure what kind of would it is.  I think it's ash but I cut it in the winter and all I knew was that the tree was straight  :P

one year i had a mess of old lath boards. now most times lath is pine, but some of that old stuff is oak. i pulled it off a wall in a house that was well over a hundred years old! anyhow i took any straight grain boards i could find, titebond glued drywall tape to the backs, a little belt sanding later ...every kid in the family had a fun bow to shoot. them kids grew up. theres still 5 or 6 of them bows making rounds through the families! This is the bow I had posted on backing with the mac n cheese duct tape.  I believe it to be ash but im really not sure.  Its 56" ttt and 20# at 18".  This was a really funky stave.  It was heavily deflexed on one side from mid limb out and just slightly reflexed on the other limb.  I had to steam the handle in order to get the tips to line up and it worked like a charm.  Im going to try and finish the bow up for xmas.  Heres a couple shots of the bow prior to finishing.
