How far do you attach the fletching from the nock 1/2" - 3/4"....?

Far enough so the back edge of the feather doesn't get mixed up with fingers drawing the arrow.
Fletching with a trailing edge gets put further forward than something like a shield or parabolic shape, which don't have a trailing edge.
