Sal orientation

I have bent a couple maple lathes into sals and have the bark side facing to be the back not the belly of the bow.
Has anyone done this and what was the end result? Is it worth the risk?

I can't say I know. But my thought is this...if you are going to put all the effort into the rest of the process why compromise on this piece? My 2 cents.
