dogwood information
« on: December 14, 2015, 02:10:47 pm »
I have and appointment tomorrow with our science department to look at a dogwood arrow cross section. Why am I doing this you might ask? I really don't know but though it might be interesting to see. The microscope has the ability to capture the screen. Would there be any interest with you guys in seeing these images?

Yes!  Cross sections can tell us the age of the wood (second year growth, for example) and what part of the plant is was made from (shoot, branch, trunk)!!

But this is assuming that the dogwood arrow is an artifact, of course.  Personally, I don't have much interest in modern-made arrow cross section.

Yes, I'd be interested in seeing that.

Hmmm... well then, if you throw in more cross sections.... let's say, of 8 different types of dogwood, then it might be cool.   ;D

ok here is the deal let me see what is involved with doing one. Then you and I  talk about those 8 on the phone and see how we want to sample them.
