Hemp for Necklaces
« on: December 02, 2015, 12:37:53 pm »
The roll of leather strips I was using for these necklaces had a flaw.
Also it was to thick for beads. So I put the hemp I bought to use.
It seems pretty strong. Time will tell.

in high school we used to make jewelry out of hemp.  We always did a braid, or a series of half hitches one over the other to strengthen the cord.  You could also do some thicker weaving, and make the necklace wider.  lots of options and patterns.  sometimes a single strand of hemp will wear out fast.

Oh yeah, it shrinks up after wet, so dont make anything too tight.

Thanks Rob, :)
I was thinking of twisting up some different colors
but I really stink at braiding and knots. :-[
I am envious of those that can work twine and rope. :(
My brain just won't accept the knit one pearl two mode?? :'(
Perhaps one day.

Nice work, I made a hemp string for my neck knife about a year ago. I use all the time I am not at work and it has held up much better than the leather ones I have had and also no stain on my shirts which Miss Joanie likes a lot. ;) :)

Thanks Pappy,
That's encouraging.
Makes me want to get up to the
South Potomac River Valley and
harvest some hemp.
Maybe next time I go artefacting.
