I missed
« on: November 28, 2015, 04:06:45 pm »
Well it's shotgun season here, I've been hunting a monster. Today I came across him bed down at around 60 yards. He jumped up and I shot a tree. Seriously wanna cry. His antlers are probly 2' tall. Huge basket racker

He won't go far. Get back out there with a grunt call
and some smackin antlers. ;)
Now take a big piece of your shirt tail and photograph it.
Post it up here where others that miss can post
theirs too.

can honestly say i never had buck fever.
But antlers dont impress me like they do many folks. For md, it really is just the meat, and the skin. A big rack will distract any guy.
But before you pull the trigger or let go the string, remember what you are out there for.
Also i run through a few things in my head during the last few seconds. I dont have to shoot this deer today, and this deer doesnt have to die today.
Knowing this takes any pressure i put on myself off.
Last thought to go through my mind is this, are the conditions right for this shot, am i going to take this shot or wait for another?
Perhaps a mental checklist would help you out some

I've been hunting him since the beginning of this year and never thought I'd just stumble up on him like that.

I'm not all about antlers. But shotgun is a buck tag. And he was the first thing I've saw in weeks.

Dont take it wrong bud, i wasnt accusing you of being antler crazy. Im just saying its easy for a guy to forget his own name when a ginormous rack is in his face, much less remember to take aim. Sounds like he jumped up and ran and you werent ready. I wish you luck next time. Be happier that he isnt wounded than you are upset you missed :) if i posted every time i missed this thread would be flooded with poor hunting stories to the point of being comical.

No worries. I don't feel as bad now. My neightbor said his friend missed the same deer at 10 yrds. I think it's a spirit. Lol. Or just that big where no one can look at it without shaking
