Zuma-

I must have been asleep for thirty years, but has there been some controversy that needed to be resolved? I thought that most people accepted the premise that NA came from the west?

Well, asleep may be one way of putting it.
"Most people" may be a point of contention.
Ya see there are a bunch of folks that think in terms of Pre Clovis.
Not to mention the Solutrean Connection Hype.
This paper challenges all that via DNA and pretty solid time frames.
So it's pretty much a Clovis First deal again. Period
Is that what you see in the data? It's more about "when"
more than from "where".

to be honest, Zuma, the explanation went way over my head. I hoped that you might shed some light on the discussion so that the average joe could understand. One in a while I look in in on some of the threads that discuss this topic, but get lost in the jargon of the posters that expostulate one way or another. If this is not the time or place for a primer, I can understand, but I thought that by bringing it to the campfire forum, you might want to interpret a little

thx

Sure willie, no problem. I have been studding this
subject for many years.
Basically what it is saying--- is that DNA studies are consistent
with a Single migration model for all Native Americans.
(This is consistent with the Clovis First Camp.  zuma)
It is supported by the DNA research from Asia,
Siberia, and the Native American populations of North and South America.
In other words, there is no human DNA found in the Americas that dates
prior to 13 thousand years ago.
Hope that helps

sound reasonable to me. I guess I couldn't quite understand why it is important make these distinctions. Are there present day consequences that depend on making accurate determinations, or is this study of history more of an academic curiosity?

willie you asked--" Are there present day consequences that depend on making accurate determinations, or is this study of history more of an academic curiosity?"

Back in the day Archaeology was a discipline.  ???
Today it's more of a free for all with very little accountability.
I guess a mirror of society. LOL
Most times persons involved are sort of a fraternity
like lawyers and doctors, never turning on one another
no matter what.
Well, that is until some in the profession steps on another's toes
or start taking money out of others accounts. lol :o
There is big, big money in books, lectures, TV and movie productions etc.
Do a search of your own. It's endless.
But we are seeing the brakes applied more lately since there
is work that now calls  the bluff of the bluffers.  :)
Here is a tiny taste.

It may have something to do with my stint at Clovis AFB

This is where things were then. It is a good
resourse and neat to compare it to the latest
