I imagine you thinking "I'm getting some compression fractures in my wood... guess I'm making a horn bow!"

Is that 53# at almost 25", and about 60" ntn?

i'm jealous

At that time I think it was 50#@24"or 25".I'll send a whole written up description of the bow when I send the full draw pic after the handle wrap gets put on.I'm not doing this like I usually do posting a bow.Usually have it all done and ready to go with pics but it'll get there. Was'nt totally sure the fix would work and had to ask a few people.I've done these before but without the compression fractures....lol.A little more time put into the bow but later I'll show why it was worth it.BL is still in my book one of the best bow woods out there.Course I've only done 2 so far so that might be a preconcieved statement.

Thanks fellas.I know it's not the conventional way of self bow making but a person does what they can to make things work.Farmers' creed.....lol.I've got to mention the names of a couple of fellas by me here who have been a great influence having fun making and shooting long bows.Grant Poindexter and Gary Hutchinson. Both have been archers well over 40 years. They've made self, laminated,& fiberglass bows too many to mention for themselves and other people. They've been giving and patient with me and my natural materials bows.Grant is just a predator plain and simple and so is Gary but Gary likes to push the envelope with his bows and fine tuning of everything.Their seasons start out west after elk, then back to Iowa for whitetail, then to Texas for hogs.Sometimes they go to Wisconsin for bear. Both have been to Alaska numerous times.Gary got a big bull moose with a hickory self bow.Grant shot kudo, wildebeest, and zebra in Africa even.If a person looks in the TTB 4 book you'll see Grant Poindexters' name in the turtle bow section. His BBO bow shot the 4th fastest or the 4th most efficient bow there that day.Garys' bows are a book in themselves. We regularly shoot quite a few 3D shoots during the summer and indoor ranges after hunting season is over.I've been lucky and blessed to have them as friends.

Bingo....Righto Rama.I used to call or spell them gardner snakes....lol,and did'nt realize it was Badgers' last name.Sorry Steve. No offense given. My girlfriend quickly straightened me out of that spelling mistake....lol.It's probably the only snake in Iowa that is'nt protected.....lol.
About the bow...I don't see or feel any affects of those compression fractures any more.
Well I guess it's time to look like winter here across the midwest with it's first snow.Good to follow a blood trail with, good floor sweep, and for kids to play on that's about it.
Getting off track here so thanks fellas for the atta boy response.

Thats a smokin' hot bow you have in the works beadman, it's coming together like a gem. I bet it will spit an arrow pretty nicely.
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.

Come on Ed, been long enough we need a full draw 😈

Thanks Badly bent.Seen some good bows from you too.
Well Bub you may be right. If I wait long enough though we're getting supposed to be getting snow here.I could use that as a good critical eyeballed background.I'm waiting for this darn leather wrap I want to use for these bulbous handles I use here.I know you solved that problem with a build-a-long done with masking tape I believe????....to use a solid one piece of leather or rawhide or whatever.I did use that once too for rawhide and it worked like a charm.Seems like handle wraps are an issue with me.Wanting to do something different every time.

I like that, I had no idea you could steam in curves like that on black locust. That was impressive!
