Heat treating Flint

Hello knappers,I would like some input about Heat Treating Flint. I trully am a beginner and know practically nothing about it. I ordered some Flint online  and now that it's arrived I really don't know where to begin. Will I need to heat treat the Flint before I can begin working on it? Any input will be greatly appreciated and essential  Thank you. DRon knife

There are very many threads.
I have a experimental and a reply type one recently.
"80 pounds of dry obsidian" has some at the end and "Heat treating for cheapskates" or something like that. They may be back on page 2 or3 maybe 4.
Also the inter web is chock full of info. Or stand by because you

Check out this site. It has a lot of good "How tos", including one on heat treating.

My first question would be whether you got pieces with cortex on them and whether they are thick. Thick pieces (over 3/4 inch thick) and pieces that are covered in cortex tend to fracture all to pieces when heated. If you got flakes or slabs, they should be fine with heat if they are of a variety that needs heat.

It depends, some do, some do not and others benefit from heat but is not necessary.
