Hmm, you would think with that little resistance on w relatively short piece of wire a PC power supply would think it was a short, what keeps it from tripping the safety shutoff?
yeah, i though so too. i was banking on the fail-safe to do its thing, but apparently it's not enough to trip it.
i even built one with a smaller power supply (~maybe 250 watt) and it works just as well. however, on that one, the wire doesn't give the high-pitch whine when switched on. it burns the feathers just fine though.
i will note that on both of the burners, the stainless piano wire does not get 'red' when the element is on.
I'm a vaper (use electronic cigarettes) and have often though about instead of making a coil in my atomizer making a fletching shape and cranking my device up to 80w or so and burning some feathers, lol. I have plenty of heavy gauge kanthal lying around. I would just have to remember to never vape with that atomizer again, lol.
