Thank you guys for looking and all the kind word. this bull still had fat on his back, (not the norm for elk here) really good eating bull. The old Hawken has been a very good rifle for me, it has put a lot of meat in the pot.
We'll be after them again for Turkey Day. Archery Deer starts the same time so I'll be doing a little of both next month with my son. JW, I have seen elk do strange things. From busting at 50 yrds from a snapped twig or lay in their bed and let ya walk into their bedroom and catch the herd bedded at 10yrds. all because the calves were up playing making noise. The time you think you can guess what they will do they do the opposite, I guess thats part of the call for me any way, to hunt them.  Ed
