A use for wood scraps

I've got a big box full of ends and pieces from bow wood. I've kept telling myself that I will do some whittling with all these pretty pieces of yew that I have. They've sat there and collected dust for years but I finally worked up the gumption to dig into one. I don't have any carving experience or any carving tools. I did all of this with rasps and files. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out though. It's a sperm whale made from a piece of yew.

hahaha! That's what my buddy, Art, told me to do, a giant squid. I'll have to work up to that, I think. There are a few less contours on a whale.

That's a really nice piece!  If a squid/octopus it too much for ya, start with a cuttlefish.  They're a fair bit shorter.

 I have boxes and boxes of cool wood and scraps.
One of my first carvings was a whale. Red Cedar.
That yew is cool.

Cottage industry! Set up a booth at the local craft fair and go nuts. Set the prices insanely high, and see if anyone bites on 'authentic handcrafted one of a kind works of art'

Just thought of something that can be handy to have, especially if you have a chunk of wood with a questionable center.  Make a good size carving, drill out the center from the bottom and stick a weight in of some kind to make a doorstop that looks great when just sitting by the door.
