tried something different
« on: October 04, 2015, 09:47:47 pm »
Hello all. These are the first points I made that I thought you might like to see. While they aren't knapped, they're natural material and quite pretty if I do say so myself. I would say they are usable as the material was a lot harder then I anticipated. They would make killer pendants as well, no pun intended.

They are ground points made from some freshwater mussel shells I found near my job site. These were the biggest/heaviest shells I've ever seen in fresh water. After doing some research, I found they are called giant floaters(don't google that. trust me. :o). The thickest shell I found so far has been 3/8" and I have another 30 pounds to cut into blanks. I'll also be making some knife scales with the ones that came as a pair.
I have nothing but scorn for all weird ideas other than my own.

They would make great buttons on leather work.

Don't overlook making fish gorges and hooks!  Or turtle, fish, and eagle effigies.

Thanks for the show!

Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.
