Joe, on small diameter stuff I like to saw it in half, lengthwise and bind back together with spacers between to allow air circulation. I usually wait at least a few weeks before sawing. You can also just make one bow by reducing the limbs and leaving the handle round. In this case I'd bind it to a form to prevent twisting od excessive backset.
I've never worked western serviceberry but the above info is how I deal with most small diameter stuff. Be sure to seas the ends.
