Osage wedding decorations
« on: September 29, 2015, 10:22:58 am »
My niece is getting married Saturday in my best deer hunting field.  The 3rd day of the season I'll have a few hundred people sitting in my best hunting spot  >:(   She is having a country wedding with pumpkins, straw bales, and hedge apples for decorations.  She asked me to make her some cup cake stands out of trees.  She found a picture online of what she wanted.  This is what I made for her.  I wanted to use osage for most of it.  It was hard to find a trunk section that split into 3 limbs so I used hackberry and a maple.  I cut the long osage limb to set across the back of the table.  The round platforms are out of an osage tree that my grandpa had a deer stand in.  Stringman posted a bow from that same tree not to long ago.  I have metal plates under each platform holding them to the upright supports.  I'll post a picture of it all set up with cupcakes on them this weekend.

I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

My brothers we sent me the same picture and wants me to make one. Did you use wet wood to make it?

Very cool idea, looks like a fun project. And they turned out nicely! Patrick

Bob, the hackberry and maple are green.  The osage was from a tree that fell over and I cut a section of the trunk out last spring.

I'll be in a stand about 200 yards away during the rehearsal.  I'm hoping the deer retreat to the oak grove when they are in the field.

That's turning out really slick, Clint! Just think, if your job falls through you could probably make it as the redneck wedding decorator.   >:D ;D 8)

I can't take credit for coming up with these.  She showed me a picture and I grabbed a chainsaw and started cutting.

Those look great. I hope you have hunting success during rehearsal, but have to track in the opposite direction.
