Hi all
I haven't been around much lately. At least, in the primitive skills section, time seems to go a little slower. I can still see Zumas pottery post at the bottom that was new when I last checked by...
I had a good pottery firing a short while ago and I thougt I'd show some:
It is mostly drums I've made from a load of clay I'd gotten at a construction site. It contains much less iron, and it shrinks more than my usual clay, so had to temper with lots of fine quarz sand from the river. I fired it to bright red hot and then sealed the kiln for the cool down to blacken the ware. The two masks I posted a while ago were in as well and came out nicely. They still wait to be painted.
(you can see the kiln here:

For the vase, I've used loess as temper, cause it doesn't hinder the polishing.
The udu is textured with a wire brush. the polished Areas have been coated with fine clay before it dried. The cordage and standing ring is from corn stalks.
the little drum is with roedeer hide and hemp cordage.
