60"sapwood backed osage sapling
« on: September 10, 2015, 09:13:02 am »
This osage is just a mile or 2 from my home. All the other osage I have cut has been at least an hour away. When my friend mentioned he knew where there was some trees close by I thought he was mistaken. Nobody around here has even heard of osage.  Anyway he was right, this bow is 60" long and 50# at 28" draw. Will have to see how long the branch stays on. Maybe too many pictures, but I couldn't help myself. The first pic is natural state after bark removal.

 8) You've got the eyes for picking the right branch. It's a natural. Great 1.
I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.

Pretty cool stick there Robert-O!

Thanks guys, especially osage outlaw for the link on posting pictures. I was having trouble in the past and was doing it wrong. That video was very helpful.

Very nice! I love bows with branches and knots on the back, the sapwood and belly wood make a really cool looking contrast too! You did a good job with recurving the one end to match the other.
"The way of heaven is like the bending of a bow-
the upper part is pressed down,
the lower part is raised up,
the part that has too much is reduced,
the part that has too little is increased."

That looks like yew. I love that look. So you just removed the bark and there you found the back of the bow. Love it.
