Picked up a piece of flint at Marshal, and finally got around to working on it. I've successfully broken it into smaller pieces, but not sure if any are workable yet. Wife is away, and she's the 'experienced' knapper in the family. This is the most fun I've had all week. I'll get some pictures up as soon as I can find my dang phone...

Just a couple quick shots I got before work.

A guy at Marshall, but I forget his name... Someone else who was there may be able to help me out.

Looks like Hornstone to me too.  Beautiful stuff to knap when you get a clean piece and after lots of careful practice.  Treat it with respect.   ;D
Any critter tastes good with enough butter on it.

Keep those better flakes. I see some nice bird points there.

Man you bought one of those cannon balls!? That's some killer hornstone...like really hard to find killer. I would just peck on those bigger flakes and buy some novaculite or something more common, and set the big piece aside until you get the hang of it more. I'm probably already too late tho. Haha.

I haven't really worked on it since these pictures. I've pretty much came to the same conclusion. It's been nice to actually work on some rock though, because it puts some physicality to what I've read.

Looks like you're gonna get the bug! It's pretty fun. I'd use that nice sized flake and try percussion and bop it flat and thin. Then pressure. Just use it as you play piece till you get some common stuff unless your a natural and you make a point out of that piece. I believe you could if you remember what you've read and think before every flake or abrading.
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short. Amen.
