Hey Pat
« on: February 09, 2008, 09:20:22 pm »
Bruce from SC, who you met at your little get together in July, wanted you to know that he finally got around to making a bow out of that bamboo you gave him.  He glued it to a piece of Ipe that he found in a lake.  The bow is 66" long, 1 1/8 at the fades tapering down to 1/2 self-nocks. It pulls 60# at 26".  He made it as a gift to his son-in-law as his new deer hunting bow.  The handle wrap is 60something year old Japanese braided silk casting line.  The bow has about 3/4" of set.  This was his first time working with bamboo or ipe.

That is a great looking bow, but I would be surprised if it is Ipe.  Ipe is quite dark colored where that is light colored.  Ipe doesn't grow in the US so it could only be in the lake if someone threw it there. If someone threw it in the lake it would go straight to the bottom.  But like I said it is a great looking bow.  Justin

It's possible its a piece of ipe sapwood, or some of the lighter colored which probably floats..The tip of the ipe bow I just started shooting is that color...

Looks look a fine bow!

As the "osage only" club reached for the pepto.... ;D

Thats a beautiful bow that Bruce made.  Glad the boo worked out for him.
Ask Bruce if he has or will take a pic of the all sap wood ERC bow he had at the camp-o-rama.       Pat

Pat, ask and ye shall receive...i.e.  I took a few photos this afternoon. :)

The one on the right is the all sapwood (for those that couldn't tell ;D).  It has some sort of stain applied.  I'm not sure what.  I love the one on the left with the heartwood center.

The all sapwood one is still the one on the right with the horn nocks.

Full draw.  Note that the handle is dropped down so that the arrow is center shot.

Both those ERC's are unbacked Dana. And they shoot really fast.

Don, The bow that Mole first posted for Bruce is a boo backed ipe. The ERC bows were just for our admiration unless Bruce wants them entered in the BOM.    Pat
